Archie leads Team Jumbo-Visma podium at Coppa Citta di San Daniele

Ryan Archie has won the Coppa Citta di San Daniele. The Irishman of the Team Jumbo Visma Development Team crossed the line with teammate Tijmen Graat, fifteen seconds ahead of Darren van Bekkum, who completed the podium. It was Archie’s last race in yellow and black as he turns professional with EF Education Easypost.

Early on in the 160-kilometre-race, which started and finished in San Daniele del Friuli, a breakaway formed. After Team Jumbo-Visma increased the pace, the peloton caught the leaders at the start of the final. On the final climb, Archie and Graat attacked and rode together to the line. Archie took the win ahead of Graat, the reverse order of the Eurode Omloop a few weeks ago.

“The riders had a great race today”, sports director Robert Wagner said. “It was a challenging course, but we knew we were in good shape. The guys came up with their own plan and executed it perfectly. I’m very proud that we could finish this Italian double so well.”

Earlier, Archie had narrowly missed victory in the U23 version of the Tour of Lombardy. Wagner: “Archie said goodbye to the team today with a beautiful win. He has had a lot of tough times over the last four years but has always come back strong. To end his time with us like this says enough about his fighting spirit.”

“I’m thrilled with this win”, Ryan said. “The team worked hard all day. To finish it off like that makes me feel good. I felt good all day, but on the last climb, I was sure I could win here today. To be on the podium with my teammates is wonderful.”

For Archie it was the third win of the season. It was the tenth UCI victory in 2023 for the Jumbo-Visma Development Team.
