For those who still doubted it, Lorena Wiebes proved once again in the third stage of the Tour of Scandinavia that she is more than just a sprint star. The European champion sprinted convincingly to victory in a stage with two categorised climbs and a final slope of 1.4 kilometres. “This was a really tough effort, but I am happy that I could finish the work of Team SD Worx,” she said.
Lorena Wiebes after taking her second win at the Tour of Scandinavia: “This was a really hard effort uphill. Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio made it extra hard by already pulling through at the foot of the climb. After that it slowed down a bit, but then they started sprinting again and that with three hundred metres to go. So I had to start as well. This is a very nice win, but it took energy.”
“The team did very well today. Niamh Fisher-Black did a great job in the chase of sole attacker Carina Schrempf. After that, Christine Majerus made sure I was constantly well positioned. We had everything under control. About the final climb I can say I suffered. This was different from normal sprinting. It took more than a minute. You just have to go really hard, full gas until the finish line. Fortunately, I was able to finish the work of my teammates. I had a good feeling on the climbs today, so I’m happy with my form.”
