Tao Geoghegan Hart won the opening stage of Tour of the Alps 2023

Tao Geoghegan Hart (INEOS-Grenadiers) won the opening stage of the 2023 Tour of the Alps, 127.5 km in Alpbachtal (Tirol, Austria) from Rattenberg to Alpbach. For the 28-year-old Brit, winner of the 2020 Giro d’Italia, this is the third success at the Euroregional race, after the two stage wins in in 2019.

The decisive attack was brought with 500 meters to go to the finish line, on the challenging slope towards Alpbach. Behind the Brit on the finish line were Tirolean Felix Gall (Ag2r Citroën) and fellow-Brit Hugh Carthy (EF Education First-EasyPost), who had tried a solo dig but couldn’t make it until the very end.

As in 2019, Tao Geoghegan Hart is the first GC leader of the Tour of the Alps, with 6 seconds on local favorite Felix Gall, and 10 seconds on Hugh Carthy.
