Fabio Jakobsen wins Stage 2 of the Tirreno-Adriatico. Filippo Ganna retains the Maglia Azzurra

Fabio Jakobsen (Soudal Quick-Step) has won Stage 2 of the 58th edition of the Tirreno-Adriatico Crédit Agricole, the 210km long Camaiore-Follonica. Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Fernando Gaviria Rendon (Movistar Team) finished second and third, respectively.

Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner Fabio Jakobsen, said: “I knew I came with speed but Fernando (Gaviria) went early. He was fast but I jumped with Jasper Philipsen. I wasn’t sure if I had won. You see a lot of photo finishes these days. Having won 40 pro races means a lot. I didn’t have the same successful start of the season like last year but my condition is good now”.

The Maglia Azzurra Filippo Ganna said: “It was an enjoyable race today with the nice weather compared to yesterday. We stayed tuned in the last climb and I hope for another sunny day to retain the lead tomorrow as well”.
