Ivan Garcia Cortina (Movistar Team) has won the 106th Gran Piemonte, presented by Eolo, raced over a 198km route from Omegna to Beinasco. Matej Mohoric (Bahrain Victorious) and Alexis Vuillermoz (TotalEnergies) finished second and third, respectively.
The Spanish rider won in a sprint of a reduced bunch of riders after the main group splintered up the Pilonetto ascent. The group with the sprinters arrived over a minute behind today’s winner.
Speaking seconds after the race finish, the winner Ivan Garcia Cortina (Movistar Team) said: “This is my first win in three years so I feel a lot of happiness. This morning I thought I could win because I felt super good in the last few races. I was quite far back in the last corner but I managed to pass everyone in the finishing straight.”
