A hot favourite in the case of a successful breakaway, Germany’s Lennard Kämna made it atop Mount Etna, after he chased Juan Pedro Lopez and beating him to the line, for the Stage 4 victory. The Spaniard however, was equally delighted with taking the Maglia Rosa from Mathieu Van der Poel. Rein Taarämae came close, in third place. Miguel Angel Lopez is the first of the GC contenders out of the race after a crash and Simon Yates remains the highest ranked of them, in fourth place, 1’42’’ down on Juan Pedro Lopez.
