Miguel Angel Lopez wins Mont Ventoux Dénivelé Challenges

iguel Angel Lopez (Movistar Team) won the 3rd edition of the CIC – Mont Ventoux Dénivelé Challenges this Tuesday, June 8, 2021.

The 27-year-old Colombian, winner of the Vuelta a Andalucia in mid-May, won the race alone after attacking just over 12 km from the finish.

Spaniard Oscar Rodriguez (Astana – Premier Tech) and his compatriot Enric Mas (Movistar Team) completed the podium.

Miguel Angel Lopez (Movistar Team), winner:

“I’m very happy to have won this race, it gives me a lot of confidence. My team worked really hard for me today. We came in force because we know that one of the stages of the Tour will be similar.

We did the first ascent at a good pace.

At the start of the second, my teammates drove hard to exhaust our opponents. I was then able to launch my attack. I was strong enough to finish the job and go on my own to victory. With luck, at the Tour de France, our bodies will remember this day. “

Miguel Angel Lopez succeeds Jesus Herrada and Aleksandr Vlasov at the top of the
CIC – Mont Ventoux Dénivelé Challenges list of winners.

For this third edition, the riders had to cover 155 kilometers and 4,500 vertical meters starting from Vaison-la-Romaine (Vaucluse – France). Two ascents of Mont Ventoux were on their program a month before the Tour de France will also tackle the Giant of Provence twice for the first time in the history of the Tour during the 7th stage.
